The Best Places To Buy In Yorkshire

by Lea Emery on 20th May 2019

If you’re looking for a new place to buy, live, or invest, make sure that you’re not letting the north slip off of your radar. While some property markets might be struggling, many areas of Yorkshire are steaming ahead with no signs of stopping. One of the biggest draws of Yorkshire is its versatility. Whether you’re looking for a booming property market with lots of growth opportunity or high quality of life and a chance to get away from it all, there’s a nook for you in Yorkshire. Tech hub or countryside, market town or student centre, there are plenty of options for anyone looking to relocate or invest.

Plus, in uncertain times areas of growth are always a safer bet, rather than putting your money somewhere where values might fall. Getting in on the upswing is a smart move for first-time buyers, young families, and retirees alike — so it's always a savvy choice to look at what’s still on the rise. And the numbers don’t lie, some areas of Yorkshire are very inviting at the moment. Here are some of the best places to buy right now, whether you’re looking to stay ahead of the curve or looking for somewhere to settle down.

When it comes to the Yorkshire property market, Sheffield is on fire — in fact, Sheffield dominated a recent list of hottest property spots in Yorkshire based off of recent sales activity, so it had to lead this list. Young people priced out by London used to run to Bristol and Manchester, but more and more are discovering that Sheffield has a lot to offer and is still incredibly affordable. Growth shows no sign of stopping, so check out properties in the S10 postcode, which include Ranmoor, Fulwood, and Crookes — as this topped the list of hottest areas in Yorkshire. Other areas like Nether Edge, Abbeydale, Beauchief, Norton, and Woodseats also took top spots, so you’ve got a lot to choose from.

Wetherby And Skipton

Only 30 miles apart, both Wetherby and Skipton appeared on The Sunday Times’s Best Places To Live list — so this area is definitely worth checking out. Wetherby is a gorgeous market town which boasts a Georgian bathhouse, Stockeld Park, and more — while Skipton is the perfect base for discovering the stunning beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. If you’re looking for a mixture of nature on your doorstep but still a buzzing market town feel, these areas are garnering a lot of attention.

A quirky city with a thriving student population, York is always a great investment — whether you’re looking to live in or let out. With its ancient roots and a jaw-dropping cathedral — plus a heap of restaurants, culture, and charming winding streets — York is definitely a hub. But if central York is a little too bustling for you, don’t worry. Check out neighbourhoods like Acomb, Dringhouses, Heworth, and Huntington. They all have great property markets and offer varying degrees of bustle so you can find the right fit.

Hull And Beverly

Hull, famously the UK’s City of Culture in 2017, is still on the rise, making it a great choice for investment. (And we hear there’s a new House of Fraser coming Hull’s way, just a little inside tip.) Catch the market while it’s still growing and you have some great investment opportunities. If you're looking something a little quieter, Beverly is a lovely market town that’s within easy commuting distance, with the benefits of Hull and the countryside both nearby. It was also named one of the best places to live in the UK, so it’s definitely worth a look.

Another Yorkshire city you can’t miss, Leeds is fast becoming the tech capital of the UK, so it’s perfect for young people and entrepreneurs — plus, it’s got an incredible quality of life. Not sure where to look? Check out Burley and Kirkstall Hill. Both are close to the city centre with busy property markets, but still full of some investment bargains if you make a savvy buy.

The whole Richmondshire area, which takes in part of the Yorkshire Dales and extends up toward Darlington, came in at number two for quality of life across the entire United Kingdomin 2019, making it a great spot for retirees, young families, or those who just want a better work-life balance. If you like the idea of the Dales on your doorstep stick to Richmond, a market town with a famous castle — or check out villages like Hudswell if you want to get away from it all.

From smart investment opportunities to rural corners of the world, Yorkshire has it all on offer. Don’t be afraid to explore new cities or market towns, because there are hidden opportunities everywhere.
