Spotlight on Maidenhead

by Housesimple on 9th September 2016

Maidenhead, located in the home county of Berkshire, is an affluent town full of history and with a bright future ahead. Private house sales in Maidenhead are increasing, thanks to its old-fashioned charm and busy town centre.

Popular place

Maidenhead sees many commuters living within its bounds – it provides convenient access to both London and Reading. The addition of Crossrail in 2019 is set to push house prices higher, as demand for homes on the outskirts of the country’s large cities and towns continues to increase.

Currently, almost a third of houses sold in Maidenhead are detached, while another quarter are semi-detached. Around two-thirds have three or more bedrooms, and the average price for these larger properties ranges from £515,000 to £1,348,940.

Rejeneration works

There are extensive plans to make the area even more attractive to new buyers. The local council has a cross party group dedicated to developing Maidenhead into “a town which is both accessible and welcoming”. As a result, upcoming projects will focus on improving the town centre, by creating a new Thames waterway, building modern leisure facilities and providing additional parking for commuters.

Up to 1,000 residential units will be built, alongside around 100,000 square metres of office space and improved retail areas. There are also plans for public spaces to be improved, adding a new town square and better cultural facilities.

Maidenhead events

Another talking point when selling a home in Maidenhead are the local events. These events not only entertain new and established residents; they also allow them to get involved with the local community. Norden Farm Centre for the Arts is a popular venue, hosting a mixture of workshops, classes and live shows. Famous faces perform here throughout the year, and in winter locals can wander around the Christmas Artisan fair.

If you're planning to sell before the end of the year, don't forget to mention the Halloween zombie walk through town, the December lantern parade or the annual Swimarathon – one of Maidenhead’s largest fundraising events.
