Onthemarket Open letter
by Housesimple on 3rd March 2015
To all vendors and Landlords affected by 'OnTheMarket',
We believe it is of the utmost importance that every existing client of every agent joining the 'OnTheMarket' property portal, is very clearly informed that their property advert will cease to be shown on one of Rightmove or Zoopla from Monday 26th January - OnTheMarket or On'half'TheMarket as it should be known, dictates that member agents can only advertise on one other website i.e.. Either Rightmove or Zoopla.
For all of you that are affected by this, it is key you are made aware that the potential for selling or letting your property will be reduced by 30% - 70% depending on which portal your agent decides to remove.
You're probably wondering why they are doing this? It is a cynical, anti-competitive and negative reaction to a changing market by some of the richest High street agents removing competition and banning 'Online estate agents' and at the same time increasing their profit margins further by removing the costs of either Rightmove or Zoopla.
Vendors and Landlords should be given the right to pull out of the contract of any agent that is involved in this action. They would likely have originally signed up to a marketing network including both Rightmove and Zoopla but now will only be on half of the market thereby reducing the likelihood of the sale of their property, which is really what it should be all about – the customer not the company.
We ask you to pass this on to help us make sure that ALL of the 250,000 people that are affected by this are made aware of what is happening in our industry.
